Honestly, I feel boring and do not have any idea about the class called 'Media Culture' at first. After I have attended few classes, I found that it is a interesting class for me as the lectures that given has their own points and I really learnt some new things or knowledge from it. Moreover, I know the reason that we as a design student should attend and have this class for our study. During doing the assignment 1, I really thought hardly about the question that given ‘Media is the Culture vs. Culture is the Media’. Actually that is no right answer for it because the opinion towards this topic will always be changed depends on the situation of the person. However, I have gained and gotten ideas on the topic about the relationship between media and culture.
I like the way which used to do the assignment 2 via sharing the opinions on the blog. It is rather to give a short reflection towards the variety topics that given weekly by this comfortable and easier way than writing a long essay about a topic. From the assignment 2, I knew the current issues about media that faced by every media users and gave our opinions towards the issues. It is quite good to make me to think more and more to share and give our reflection on the questions. Besides that, we also know the different thinking and opinions of other group mates and discuss for it as I think discussion is really important and can interpreting our thinking.
Overall, I think the class is interesting to me because the topics that we have discussed are really important and useful knowledge for me to continue my study of design. Thanks you, lecturers.

Final Discussion - Tiew See Ben
In the first, i think media culture is a boring class and don't why we need to learn media culture subject for what reason. But after i had studied media culture, i can see how important is the MEDIA and the CULTURE. Media can effect culture and culture can effect media. That's why there is no answer about which is right. After the assignment 1, we will be more care about our life and social. For the assignment 2, we had read a lot of article and think about it, comment what we feel about the article. For the ACT114A, we feel disagree it and add more sugguetion to it. For the Facebook privicy, we still worry about it but we still use FB and give the reason. In the conclusion, culture and media is stick together and this is our job to protect our culture and improve the media in the future.
Final Discussion-Ong Yen Xiang
When the
first time of hearing this subject, Media Culture. I got no idea what is this
subject all about. After attending the class and go through the assignment . I
had gain a lot of knowledge and idea regarding to our life and surrounding. For
assignment1, it is a very good question that, media influenced culture, or
culture influenced media. This question is just like egg come after chicken, or
chicken come after egg. Some might said chicken lay egg, but some said, if got
no egg then how do we got the chicken? All these question is depends on the
situation and the condition. The is no exactly correct and wrong among the
discussion. For assignment 2, this created the chance for me to read those
article which I will never concern or search it by myself. Usually, everything
is just seen through from facebook, some social network. But because of this
assignment, I gained some knowledge such as ACT114A, privacy of internet and so
on. A long the process for assignment 2, it got a lot of discussion among our group
members and yet I just realize that there is different people would have
different idea among those different topic. As a conclusion, this subject is
fun and interesting as I do like the discussion way in the assignment 2.

Media Culture class is an interesting class. The lectures were really convincing. It makes me want to know more about certain issue. From time to time, it still reminds me about the media influence in the society. Throughout the class, Assignment 1 and Assignment 2 were given and to be done on time. During working on the Assignment 1, I find the assignment 1 was quite difficult to be accomplished. When after I agreed with one point for the assignment, I felt another choice is much more better than the original choice. For Assignment 2, Assignment 2 is much more easier to be done as the question was given weekly. The information that i needed is quite wide. Personally, I prefer Assignment 2 over Assignment 1. Doing my work in blog is more easier than finding information and write a long essay. Overall, i think the entire Media Culture is a successful class. It is the only non-major subject class that I really interested to attend weekly.
Final Discussion Tang Tak Choon
At the end of the semester, I truly found out there of the meaning of media culture , in our life, there is different culture and media keep on related to our daily life, and there is how media and culture worked together . On the other hand , the cultural meaning of media also referencing and influenced by everyday uses of media . Such as assignment 1,we are given a task for what do you think is it media influenced cultural,or cultural influenced media . we more understand about this theory through assignment 1 . For assignment 2 , we can know that recently the issue topic and also we can debate each other of our group member , this is the best part that I can given out free speech and accepted other group member opinion. I really learn a lot in Media Culture and I appreciation it, thanks.

'Media Culture' at the beginning of the class i find it difficult to relates these two words together although it seems easy to understand but it isn't. After i have been through the whole semester, at the end of the day i finally get to know the meaning inside it. It is so much related to our daily life cycle. It lighten me up with the media that influences the culture which we all might not realising it that we actually live in this era are so much relying on media. That is what i get while doing the assignment 1. While doing the assignment 2, i am actually shocked by all kind of the issues that im actually have no idea about what is happening around us until the assignment task is given. So then, throughout the assignemnt 2, i could able to know the responsibility of what should and shouldn't i do in any kind of media to protect my self safety and privacy. By the way, the method used for the assignment 2 which is bloging is very much convenient and efficient to gain extra knowledge and opinion from different people around. I think that's all i gained, media cultures had brought me to a further understanding of media and culture.

It almost has come to the end of the semester. I had learnt different media and cultures through this subject media cultures. It taught me a lot and gained my knowledge. Beside that, I like our second assignment's format to write on a blog and let every members to comment on it. It can let us show out our point of view. For example, the first article is about ACT 114A. If without this assignment, we couldn't know what is it for. As a design student, we have the responsibility to know everything on media and cultures. All of these does affect us in our daily life. Conclusion, media cultures has taught me different kind of knowledge.

Who regulates the internet?
From my point of view, there is no one can regulates the internet. What you might be thinking of is ICANN, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Headquartered in Marina Del Rey, California, ICANN is a California non-profit corporation that was created on September 18, 1998 in order to oversee a number of Internet-related tasks previously performed directly on behalf of the U.S. Government by other organizations, notably IANA.ICANN assigns and maintains domain names among other things.Source(s):
Everyone of us can build a website and post anything they want though. This is a freedom for us. They have no right to stop us.
Personally, do you think there should be internet censorship? why?
No, I don't think our country should be internet censorship. Their are 3 countries are under internet censorship, such as China, Saudi Arabia and Cuba. They control their citizen can't censor the Internet, including email, blogs and websites, for content on topics such as anti-government sentiment, human rights and radical social opinions. I personally think that if we live under a no freedom country, that would be very suffer. We shall have the right to tell point out our point of view and comment.

Who regulates the internet?
No one is regulates the internet now but somebody is wish to regulate the internet. I think government of most of the country is trying to regulate the usage of internet of their country but haven't succeeded yet. Based on my research, there are Internet regulation bodies that work behind the scenes to keep everything running semi-smoothly. Here are the main Internet regulation entities, the Internet Society, Internet Engineering Task Force, Internet Architecture Board, interNIC, PFIR-People for Internet Responsibility, ICANN.org.
(For more about the information, please read here : http://websearch.about.com/od/whatistheinternet/a/internetrules.htm)
Personally, do you think there should be internet censorship? why?
In my opinion, I think there should be internet censorship or shouldn't be? Nowadays, people have their right to release their speeches and opinions in real life moreover in internet as a virtual world. It is make people feel uncomfortable and lost their freedom to use internet if there have censorship on internet. On the other hand, there are also improper use of internet by somebody to publish post which contains seditious, defamatory, or libelous content . Then, it should be have internet censorship against these cases. I think it should be have internet censorship in Malaysia against the Section 114A to protect the innocent internet users. However, the censorship has advantages and disadvantages of its own and just see either it is applied in correct way or not.

Who regulates the internet?
No one can regulates the internet. We have our freedom to speak and comment on internet.Even now our country are trying to regulate internet but it's fail because we still have our way to comment and the internet has a wide global connection. There will be many information and news that are don't know it's correct or wrong. We believe the news through our own judgment. The one of the issue is the rumors will spread widely so the internet user will believe the fake information.Personally, do you think there should be internet censorship? why?
i don't think that the internet can be censorship. But there will be good or bad about internet censorship, The good is internet censorship can be able on privacy webpage or adult webpage that are not suitable to the children. Children can stay out from the website and use internet safety. Therefore the disavantage of internet censorship is we can't get more information from the outside world, we also be limited to speak and comment. Overall the internet can be censor but not be control

Based on research, there is still no specific person or country that control it. The IP protocol is not patented and can be implemented by anyone. In my opinion, of cause i don't want it to be happen that could able to change my life style. When the censorship applied, we might not know which site will be controlled or take over. For example, the internet file sharing site will be affected like before, one of the famous file sharing site mega upload was shut down that causes the global attention. Besides, some of the video uploaded in youtube are not available for certain country, but what if the internet censorship take over the youtube, will youtube possible to disappear forever? no one knows, but we shall not let it happen since youtube is currently being one of the most important media for every internet users.

No one regulates the internet. but there are internet regulation bodies that work together to keep the internet run smoothly. The internet is used by worldwide. Some countries do regulate internet within their own country.
Personally, do you think there should be internet censorship? Why?
Personally, I don't think there should be any censorship on internet. Internet is for everyone. It is a borderless society for every internet users around the world. Depend on what type internet censorship applied, certain censorship would just deny the users the real information about the society, politic and country. Other censorship would restrain the users from involved in pirated, illegal activities online. The censorship has the good and bad of its own. It has to depends on how it is applied and how it would affect the users.

Personally, do you think there should be internet censorship? why?
I don't think there should be internet censorship, this world reserves the right of free speech, I believe that we have our rights protected and if we censor internet there will be lack of information. If it censor just because for those site for "adults" should not be able to be accessed by children, I think it's just a sort of protection for them, internet censorship doesn't help it and I believe that is a parents responsibility to take over about it against this happening, and be better monitors of their children.

Who regulates the internet?
There is no
specific entity that has jurisdiction over internet regulation. In terms of
laws that govern behavior and usage of the internet, multiple laws that apply
offline also apply to online activity, and there are a few laws developed
specifically to deal with various aspects of online behavior. However, no
single specific internet law or internet regulation governs what takes place
online.

internet censorship? Why?
There is
pros and cons if the either the internet had been censorship. Personally, I
think the internet should apply some censorship. Two of the purposes are
desirable goals: access control to protect children and to enable
adults to avoid material which offends their personal and community standards.
Protect children is the main point of my supporting point. Children need to
educate since they are kid. Internet nowadays can access anywhere and anytime
with support of wireless and even 3G. Internet censorhip would lead children to
a right education.

Are you aware of this?
I
never aware of the Facebook’s privacy issue until I read the article. My
thought is refreshing some of the new function added by the Facebook recently
which I felt got no privacy also. The function of seen the chatbox, Facebook’s chatbox
can let the user know is someone seen the chatbox had been sent. I felt this is
really no privacy because even I either I seen the chatbox or not, people will
know it. This function gave convenience to people but somehow still give
troublesome to people.
Would
you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
Yes, I will still stay in Facebook because Facebook
being part of entertainment of my daily route nowadays. At least right now it
is still not causing me any serious issues. But will be concern on it.

I just knew this issue after I read the article which provided by lecturer. Thanks you, lecturer =)
Actually, the issue and news about the social networking's privacy always come out and not Facebook only. It causes an argument among the users. That was a another news that I have read before was about leakage of personal data when Facebook users click the"Like" button. However, I think i'm a bit worry towards the protection of users' personal information by Facebook because the research state that we as a Facebook user, our personal information will easily to let other strangers to know by a picture or any photo compared with other social networking. It also will let the stranger know another personal information, such as report, email and etc just by Facebook?!
Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
Yes, I will because I used to use Facebook as my major communicate tool to communicate with my friends, family and other person but I will not ignore the issue. There are some ways for me to prevent leakage of my more personal information is do not provide too much of my real information in Facebook and also do not add stranger as my Facebook friend. Besides that, I think it is another way to let myself to feel more safety is use another email address to register the Facebook account as do not use the email address for private and confidential works. It is most important thing is the privacy settings is adjustable for users. So, I think I no need to so worry about this issue.

From the start to register any wedsite, we should know our privacy will be encroach. But we have a choice to fill in the truth of information. Are you
aware of it? Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
I was not
aware of it until I read the article about Facebook’s privacy issue. It is a
very disturbing situation for every facebooker around the world. Facebook
facial recognition technology enables facebookers to be tagged in the photos
automatically. It is breaching every facebooker’s privacy. There are facebookers
who wish to stay low in the Facebook. It could upset certain amount
facebookers.
I would still
going to stay in Facebook. I don’t think that the new function will affect me
much as my privacy settings always set within my friends’ connection only. Everything
in my Facebook is only for friends. Actually I don’t think it will be a problem
for everyone if they set the privacy to the maximum where only friends are
available to access to the information. With the maximum privacy setting, no
one would be able to find me in any search engine. Thus, this also would help
me from linking my information to my photos out there. The privacy setting in
the Facebook is adjustable. People can change whenever it is needed.
Topic Discussion 2 - Tong Weng Foong
Are you aware of this?
This is one of the privacy issue face by the users. Just for your information, there are a lot more issues regarding to the privacy of the Facebook itself. for example, some company collects and keeps information you might not expect, of cause the user must be logged into Facebook to collect certain information. But now, Facebook its privacy policy and is now capturing information about you anytime you are on a website that has a Facebook "like" button or some sort of Facebook widget. Whether or not you click those features, Facebook still knows you are there and stores that information for up to 90 days. says Brookman. 2nd example is that comes to online purchases in Facebook. Its kinda surprising for the users to buy Facebook credits. Facebook does have to contend with malicious software stealing user credentials and clickjacking scams. some users may be wary about Facebook now.
the reasons i show you all these example is that, not just the "tagging picture facial recognition" issue that rises the privacy concerns. Yet, there are a lot a lot more, research's survey finds out that 54% of the Facebook users does not trust much in facebook. We all know that Facebook itself have functions and its ways to secure our information, it just seems like not working and its like for our personal comfort only.
Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
Before this, honestly i don't even know that facebook privacy has comes into such horrible level of riskiness. But even when i realise it after all, i don't think it will somehow effect me. Because, since i started to use facebook few years back, i face zero issue using it, doesn't mean that i am not aware of stranger or some company taking my information, but why should i concern so much about it? i have not provide much information in facebook like home address and phone number, and i have no idea why they would like to get personal information via facial recognition, it gives me a thought like the CID or FIB doing some prisoner search by scanning every single portrait picture and then the information will somehow pop out. But i have not did any thing wrong and why should i worry about it? But seems that there are a lot of privacy problems occurred, i might also beware of using any social network but not prevent using it. Besides of manually controlling personal privacy setting, i might also need to pay attention when clicking any advertising and buying Facebook credits.

After I get through of the article, here's facebook is go against our privacy issue. As I know, all of these social website ( facebook ) that had a option to set your own privacy issue, ofcause if u don't set it as privacy so it's your own responsibility to take that risk. As for that CMU researcher, it's an apps just with facial recognition technology then it can access our information through facebook without login. It aware me to be alert tagged from other's and also increased alertness the privacy information of my profile.
Ofcause i will still stay on facebook, because it's the social website that let me communicate with friends, the only way we can prevent is just strengthen our behaviour on social website, for example don't simply click unknown link send by stranger, set your own profile by seen to own friends only.

Are you aware of this?
After reading the article, the awareness
just stuck my mind as the technology that enables tagging users in pictures
through application. Definitely it gives an easy task for users for tagging
their friends; in the other hand, when the users did not want themselves to be
tagged or to be seen by others, either the privacy setting can be changed as
users are enable to limit their profiles and pictures to be seen by others or
tags can be removed manually.
Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
Regarding about Google+, LinkedIn and any
other social sites, I do not have any account in them as I do not know about
the system that they are using. It is always a Yes for me to keep on using
Facebook.com as the site is a median to connect to my friends and family which
are far apart from location that I am right now. It is an another way of
discussing some outings and as well as assignments.

Topic Discussion 1 - Lim Poh Yeng
What is ACT114A ?
Section 114A is the second of two amendments made to Malaysia’s Evidence Act 1950. Law Minister Nazri Aziz tabled the second amendment, formally known as Evidence (Amendment) (No2) Act 2012, in Dewan Rakyat on 18 April. James Dawos Mamit supported the motion, and Section 114A was passed after the second and third reading. On 9 May, Dewan Negara passed the amendment. The amendment was gazetted on 31 July 2012. This means the law is now operational.
How does ACT114A affect you?
It does affect my freedom of speech and expression is upheld. Every single moment I have to worry will get sue for defamation due to section 114A. The ACT11A will control everyone's freedom, we suppose to have to freedom to post anything in facebook, twitter, blogging or any other social network.
Does it really matter?
Yes it does. According to the ACT114A, anyone can be involve in this case, even though you are a kid! For example, if you take my phone and tweet something about the politic issue, there is nothing from twitters server to prove you didn't do it. As long as you took my phone, to twitter you look like me. That’s it. Twitter doesn’t know someone took my phone. This is so unfair and bring a lot of trouble to everyone.
Should you be concerned?
Of course. When it concerns matters of Government policy, we must pay for attention on it. We are a developing nation in a modern world, we should have to right to post anything that we like in facebook or twitter.

Lim Poh Yeng
