Topic Discussion 3 - Ong Yen Xiang

Who regulates the internet?

There is no specific entity that has jurisdiction over internet regulation. In terms of laws that govern behavior and usage of the internet, multiple laws that apply offline also apply to online activity, and there are a few laws developed specifically to deal with various aspects of online behavior. However, no single specific internet law or internet regulation governs what takes place online.

Personally, do you think there should be internet censorship? Why?

There is pros and cons if the either the internet had been censorship. Personally, I think the internet should apply some censorship. Two of the purposes are desirable goals: access control to protect children and to enable adults to avoid material which offends their personal and community standards. Protect children is the main point of my supporting point. Children need to educate since they are kid. Internet nowadays can access anywhere and anytime with support of wireless and even 3G. Internet censorhip would lead children to a right education.

  1. Yes, you may right,Internet censorship maybe lead children to a right education, but I think their parents are playing more important role to their education, other than being a good parent monitor, teaching and supervising your kids internet time. If you raise them right, they'll grow up to be decent people.

    1. keke.. yea.. Parents are playing an important role for guiding their children and giving correct education in order to lighten their children future..

But children are easily influenced by their peers. They might also like to follow the peers and curious for with what had mention by peers..

Hence, with the help of censorship, it would increase the effect of education for the children..

      I agree that internet censorship..

Regarding to how to censorship lead the children to a right education..
In this point I am focusing on how internet will influenced to children..
Without censorship, children can easily access to any pornographic website.. Sometimes, they might be doing so due to curiousness where influenced by their peers.. But they might addicted at the end.. just like someone being tried on smoke.. it is only try in their first thought.. but they will never know their will being addicted at the end..

this is just one of the example, it could also apply in violence and more..
here is supporting details which will explain futher

  3. These days most kids are very good in computer. They can easily find a solution to avoid the censorship. VPN [Virtual Private Network] enable its users to access the blocked website. It is pretty much useless for the censorship.

    1. yea, kids is good in computer, but the censorship would be a block and a protection from them also. It is just like a road block, sometimes the road block that caught those drunk from illegal drive, you can say that they can still route to another way. But that road block will still reduce people drive drunkly.
