Topic Discussion 3 - Tong Weng Foong

Who regulates the internet?
Based on research, there is still no specific person or country that control it. The IP protocol is not patented and can be implemented by anyone. But there are internet regulation bodies which act to keep everything running well. the ICANN is one of the Internet regulation group which created to oversee a number of internet-related tasks and maintains domain names among other things.

Personally, do you think there should be internet censorship? Why?
In my opinion, of cause i don't want it to be happen that could able to change my life style. When the censorship applied, we might not know which site will be controlled or take over. For example, the internet file sharing site will be affected like before, one of the famous file sharing site mega upload was shut down that causes the global attention. Besides, some of the video uploaded in youtube are not available for certain country, but what if the internet censorship take over the youtube, will youtube possible to disappear forever? no one knows, but we shall not let it happen since youtube is currently being one of the most important media for every internet users.

    1. yes, there is nothing perfect, but we need to bare in mind that sometimes just a little mistake may causes a huge phenomena that affects the surrounding. Thus, they will need to minimize the problems or mistakes to the minimum or even not letting it happen at all. And for this cases,if the censorship is applied, they must make sure it will beneficial the internet user instead of destroying the freedom of internet itself.

  3. Yes, the situation alomost same with situation in China. It censors most of the content through keywords. Many media outlets such as BBC, Twitter, Facebook and Google+ are blocked in China as well. All internet cafes are being monitored closely and are closed down if any fishy business is being run.

    1. OMG ! how come China will be that strict? i am so lucky that Malaysia haven't reach that standard. But i think that there will be some reasons for it to be such strict. Maybe our country still haven't face any dangerous issues yet, but who knows what will happen tomorrow. Therefore, we should use the internet wisely and let government be confident with us that we could handle well the internet ourself.
